New denounces of death squads in Honduras
|
Caracas, Jul 01 ABN.- The reappearance in Honduras of the death squad Battalion 316 was denounced by the union leader Porfirio Ponce, who affirmed that members of that unit harass popular leaders.
Ponce stated that in one of these actions, they made a raid to the house of the union leader of the National University of Honduras, Marcos Antonio Murillo.
The vice president of the Union of Beverage and Related Industry Workers of Honduras (STIBYS) recalled that such death squad was created by the army in the eighties, during the last century, in order to disappear and murder the popular leaders.
He added that such group was headed by the former captain of the police, Billy Joya Amendula, charged by international bodies on human rights of torturing and murdering several Honduran people.
The denounce of the reactivation of the death squad occurred after the Honduran armed forces kidnapped the president, Manuel Zelaya, and led him to Costa Rica, at the beginning of a coup d'état.
